We want to personally invite you to our first ever fundraising event. TruKings & TruQueens Casino Night. Although this is a ‘casino night’ there is no actual gambling because all money given that night comes straight to the TruLight127 Youth Village. The vision and dream of TruLight’s Youth Village is to address three glaring issues in the foster care industry. Children sleeping in the CPS office due the immediate lack of beds for children removed from abusive situations, lack of homes/resources for children ages ten and older, and lack of support for families who are taking these children in their homes.
TruLight Youth Village will be a place where we can meet children’s immediate needs of an emergency home where they will have their medical, dental, counseling, developmental therapies needs, educational needs and life skills. TruLight127 seeks to be a safe haven for children of all ages. A place full of the love, safety, and resources for youth in immediate need of a safe home and for those needing help as they grow and enter adulthood. Equipping each child with skills that will give them the self-esteem and knowledge that they have a voice and deserve to be heard. In providing homes for the State of Texas most vulnerable populations, we will have the following:
Two emergency shelters. These homes will be a safe haven for a short time as we seek to provide these services while recruiting, training, and certifying quality homes for the children. These trainings will also include kinship homes for children who have safe biological family members who want to step up and keep the children in their family environment.
Intermediate and Graduate homes for teens and young adults. Our first goal is to find homes for all children, but we know that there are a number of children in the system that due to age alone end up staying in foster care for years and even aging out of care. Our Intermediate homes and Graduate homes will be a place for those children for as long as they need us. Our goal and dream is to help educate and guide these youth to success. In the State of Texas once a child is in foster care they have the opportunity to attend a state university or occupational school at no cost. The majority of these kids never take advantage of this and we want to encourage and equip them to do so. We want to provide the opportunity to learn to work, drive, attend university or trade school, and be a successful contributing member of society.
We will have gardens, recreational activities, therapies, animals and many opportunities to learn skills they have not had the chance to learn. We will partner with local businesses to provide internship programs and jobs. The Youth Village will learn daily life skills that many of us take for granted such as how to do laundry, wash dishes, iron a shirt, engage in social interactions, and more. Our graduate cabins will allow those in our program over the age of 18 that are in school/working to have a home to live in and a place of stability while they transition into adulthood.
The Village will also provide a safe haven for the families of children from hard places to come and be trained in TBRI (Trust-Based Relational Intervention), Trauma Informed Care, Educational Concerns, and much more. The Village will reach out to biological, kinship, foster, and adoptive families to provide them with the tools they need to succeed and provide stable, strong, and permanency for the most vulnerable in our society. Every ticket sold, sponsorship, or donation will make a difference in the lives of these children.T
